How the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium Maintains Their Animal Records and Other Facets of the Registrar Position.

Shelly Roach is the Registrar at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. Shelly entered the zoological field while attending the Ohio State University and became a seasonal keeper at the Zoo in 1992. After receiving her bachelors’ degree in Zoology in 1994, she was offered a full-time position as the Quarantine/Australasia Zoo Keeper in 1996 and for the next 11 years she took care of a wide range of species. In August 2007, Shelly was offered the Zoo’s Registrar position and began maintaining the animal records. Shortly after becoming the Registrar, she joined the Zoological Registrars Association (ZRA). While attending ZRA’s annual conferences, Shelly was introduced to ARMA and some of their chapter members. Shelly continues to manage the Zoo’s animal records while raising 13 year old twin boys with her husband.
