Spring Seminar 2015

GREATER COLUMBUS ARMA SPRING SEMINAR
ALIGNING RECORDS MANAGEMENT WITH BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY CHANGES
Thursday, May 21, 2015
8:30 am to 4:30pm
8:30AM – MANAGING PERSONAL MOBILE DEVICES BY EMPLOYEES
SOO KANG
General Counsel and Director of Consulting, Zasio

While the introduction of consumer devices into the business environment by employees comes with certain benefits, risks abound for the organization if left unmanaged. This presentation will provide an overview of mobile devices in the workplace, as well as the risks, important considerations, and potential solutions for managing those devices from both a policy and technological perspective.
10:15AM – MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS AND THE IMPACT ON RIM
DORIS HAMBACHER, CRM
Global RIM Manager, Accenture

A new acquisition, joint venture or merger can challenge a RIM professional. The time to typically on-board a new business can be a matter of months with several moving parts. This gives little time to understand existing RIM policies, recordkeeping practices and systems in order to properly transition the active and legacy records. Further risks may come from new regulatory requirements if the acquired business is in a different industry or country.
1:15PM – USING POLICY AND PROCEDURE TO MAKE PRINCIPLES PRACTICAL
CHARLES KENNEDY
Director of Records & Docket, Jones Day

Explore ways of thinking about and shaping the role of RIM and Information Governance in organizations whose missions and primary focus are something other than Records and Information Management. The session will highlight how elements of the Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles® can be applied to support the organization’s mission and meet user requirements, to make RIM implementation and compliance practical rather than disruptive.
3:00PM – PAPERLESS OR LESS PAPER?
STEVE HUFFMAN, CRM
Merrill Legal and Financial Transactions Services

A few decades after being coined as a futuristic concept, the “paperless” office has become more punch line than reality. In some cases, the very technology that was supposed to eliminate paper only seems to proliferate it. While paperless may not be quite feasible, or even desirable, there are benefits to achieving “less paper”, and the technology to bring it about is already here.
